Bait is Back

Report Date: June 19, 2017

We have been spending more time fishing north lately with cleaner water and more baitfish. The last few weeks we went from drought conditions to lot's of rain here on the Treasure Coast. No water releases from Lake Okeechobee but lot's of runooff south towards the St. Lucie Inlet.

This is a great time of year to livebait south targeting catch and release snook, jacks and tarpon. Pilchards, mullet, greenies on circle hooks will do the trick.

With the increase of baitfish north, we are finally starting to see some flounder. Tripletail have also picked up the past few weeks. We just caught # 15 for the year while fishing yesterday. My target each year is 100 so time to get busy. Last year we caught 68 with 8 teipletail over 20lbs.

I recommend morning trips this time of year with cooler temperatures and afternoon thunderstorms.
