Dog Days

Report Date: August 16, 2012

Dog days of summer are upon us so get out there early. North of the Jensen Causeway has seen the majority of our fishing lately with trout and ladyfish just off the spoil islands. Even a few pompano and bluefish that don't realize it's summer. We are throwing a mixture of soft rubbers like gulp and DOA along with live shrimp on trollrites.

The bridges have been hit or miss for snook, black drum and croakers. Many areas are holding tons of glass minnows so find the bait and you will catch some nice fish. Been hitting the channel markers hard with most flounder 2-3 pounds but did catch 2 over six pounds. Tripletail remain on the small side so far this year with most in the 3-4 pound range but did catch a few just over ten pounds. Lot's of lane snappers along with sheephead, mangrove, muttons and even a few triggerfish can be found around the pilings.

Great time of the year livebaiting for catch and release snook, jack and tarpon in the inlet area and along the beaches. I've been fishing north lately, with good results.
