Another Cold Front will Heat up Spanish Mackerel

Report Date: January 31, 2013

The next few months should be a great time to play with the Spanish Mackerel near Peck's Lake. I have not made it outside the past few weeks due to offshore conditions but looking foreward to loading up my smoker real soon.

North of the Jensen Causeway, it's been trout along the west shoreline in 3-4 feet. Scattered ladyfish, jacks and pompano mixed in but the pomps have been scarce. With todays cold front pushing through, look for the pompano action to start picking up. The most productive area lately has been the Sailfish Flats catching them on Capt. Joe's yellow and white pomp jigs.

Structure Fishing around the bridges has been a mix of black drum, sheephead and snook mainly on shrimp and trollrites. We did catch our first couple of tripletail this year under crab trap floats on the Indian River. Live and Gulp shrimp have been working best.
