Snook Turning On

Report Date: February 27, 2020

Just in the last 2 weeks, the snook bite has turned on in the Indian and St. Lucie rivers. Livebaits like pilchards and greenies have been hard to come by so most catches have been on shrimp. Season remains open for snook till June 1st with a 28-32" slot, 1 per angler. Aboard Catch 22, we normally use more pilchards and greenies on circle hooks as they become more available around April throughout October. Snook charters are private trips only with a 3 person max.

The spanish mackerel bite has been on fire since they appeared on the Treasure Coast in January. We have ran 2 mac trips this year catch around 50 in 90 minutes. Most macs are running 2-3 lbs and sure make some great smack (smoked fish dip). I try to get in a dozen mackerel trips each season. We catch these along the beach so I require seas of 2 foot or less to target them.Mac trip are a 4 person max. All other charters are 6 person max.

The pompano bite has been hit or miss so far this season. Last year they turned on big time late February thru April so I expect for them to improve. Black drum, tripletail and croakers on the structure with lots of sheepshead too. I believe I have cleaned over 400 sheepshead this year alone.
