Fishing's Hot, Pompano Cold

Report Date: March 19, 2014

Inshore fishing in the Stuart area remains hot with the only exception being pompano. We continue to see plenty of black drum to eight pounds around area structures. Scattered mackerel action around the Stuart Causeway and in the St. Lucie River near Hell's Gate.

Congratulations to Martha Smith with her first tripletail while fishing north on the Indian River under crab trap floats. Another great catch recently was Bob Hassett from Jensen Beach with a real nice 20 lb jack crevalle that he hooked up on 12 lb. test. This fish was on a mission taking us 1 hour and 10 minutes to land. Pound for pound jacks are about the strongest fishing fish out here. Hats off to Bob for a most memorable catch and release.

I expect the flounder bite to pick up soon and tripletail should remain here till October.
